The discipline of becoming the datum

In the agent-mediated web it is not enough to be found: you must become the datum. Ontopoietica studies how an entity resolves and is recognised in the knowledge graph — and puts its own hypotheses to the test in the open.

A discipline that declares how it could be wrong

Ontopoietica does not present itself as a truth to be preached, but as a falsifiable research programme. It starts from a hypothesis — that there exists a method by which an entity, starting from zero, settles into the graph by following precise principles — and submits it to public verification, accepting in advance that it may be refuted.

It is the opposite of the miracle method. A method that cannot lose proves nothing; a hypothesis that no datum can dent is not science, it is faith. Here the value is not in winning the experiment: it is in having run it honestly. A negative result is still a result.

The thesis

The terminal consumer of information is becoming a machine

Engines no longer read pages the way a person does. Agents combine several retrieval modalities — vector, lexical, graph, structured, multimodal — and what they return is not "the page best optimised to be chosen", but the resolved entity: a node of the knowledge graph whose authority is not declared, but propagated by its neighbours along typed semantic relations.

The unit of existence online is no longer the page, but the resolved entity.

The four principles

To exist, to propagate, to stay true, to last

Four founding principles, in logical order. From the first the method follows; the other three say how the entity strengthens, what may enter it, and how it lasts over time. Their mathematical form is in the equation of resolution authority.

  • 01 Data-Identity

    An entity exists to the extent that it is structured as a verifiable datum, not as content.

  • 02 Propagation

    Authority is not owned: it circulates between coherent nodes, along the relations that bind them.

  • 03 Falsifiability

    Only what is corroborated and refutable enters the datum. The plausible is not enough.

  • 04 Consolidation

    Recognition is a loan to be maintained over time, not a possession to be cashed in.

The domain ontopoietica.org is new: zero history, zero backlinks, zero accumulated authority — the most unfavourable starting condition possible, and for that reason the cleanest. If this entity, starting from nothing, settles into the graph by following its own principles, the domain variable is zeroed by construction.

We do not start from an established point, but from a documented one: the zero-state certified with a timestamp. The conclusion is not yet known — and that is exactly right. Follow the experiment and how it could falsify me →
